Abstract

Machine cutters, grinding in situ.- Apparatus for sharpening the rotary knife of a slicing- machine consists of a grinding wheel band a burr-removing wheel a arranged to act simultaneously on the knife k, the wheels being free to move relatively to one another and to adjust themselves to the knife. The relative movement is permitted by mounting the spindle c of the wheel d within the spindle of the wheel b, a spring e being mounted on the spindle c, and the simultaneous movement of the two wheels is permitted by movement of the spindle d in the bearing h under the constraint of two springs f, g. In a modification the two wheels are mounted on the same spindle which is slidable, under spring constraint, in its bearing, the grinding-wheel being secured to the spindle, and the other wheel slidable thereon under the action of a spring.
