719,746. Endless tracks for vehicles. ROADLESS TRACTION, Ltd. June 22, 1953 [Aug. 15, 1952], No. 20624/52. Class 79(1) An endless track comprises a plurality of shoe members flexibly secured to each other through the intermediary of rubber blocks, each shoe member comprising a pair of end plates 1, 2 connected by a bridge piece 3, the end plate 1 having a spud 5 and an outwardly-projecting step 6, the end plate 2 terminating in a foot 7, the arrangement being such that for the laid portion of the track, the foot 7 of one shoe member rests on the projecting step 6 of the' adjacent shoe member. As shown, adjacent shoes are secured by a pair of bolts 8, and respective sets of rubber blocks 10, 11. 12 as described in Specification 395,723. The purpose of the step 6 is to support the shoe against tilting loads when a roller 25 is bearing on the bridge piece 3 at positions offset from the spud 5. When the shoe commences to leave the ground, the distance between its spud 5 and the spud of the adjacent shoe increases (as shown to the right of the drawing), and mud jammed between the spuds tends to become ejected.
