Abstract
719,650. Preventing and minimizing fouling of ships' hulls. POSTANS, Ltd, ARNOLD, M. H. M., and FOSTER, D. B. Feb. 23, 1953 [March 15, 1952], No. 6758/52. Class 123(1) In a method of preventing or minimizing the fouling of ships' hulls by marine growths and organisms by occasioning molecular vibrations at ultrasonic freqencies of the material of which the hull is constructed, a transducer 10 or transducers for generating the ultrasonic vibrations is or are arranged parallel to the inner surface of the ship's hull 11 and is or are associated rigidly with the hull. In Fig. 1 the core of the transducer is in abutment at each end with humps 12 which are associated rigidly with the hull. In a second embodiment the core is in abutment at one end only with a single hump 12; in a third embodiment the ends of the core of the transducer itself are rigidly associated with the hull 11, and in a fourth said ends are in rigid association with the inwardly directed ends of bowed supports which themselves are rigidly associated with the hull.
