A ship is propelled by water jets from pipes 6, 7, the water for these being drawn from an inlet 5 by pumps 3, 4 each driven by separate turbines 2, 2a. Branch pipes 10, 11, controlled by valves 8, 9 are provided for steering, and forwardly directed pipes 13, 14 for going astern.
