Abstract

544,239. Ship's hulls. TRUSDALE, W. R. H. March 10, 1941, No. 3189. [Class 113 (ii)] For stabilizing purposes the hull of a ship is provided with two straight open-ended tunnels 5, 6 disposed parallel to and on opposite sides of the centre line of the ship, one of the tunnels being of V-shape in section and the other of arcuate section, the latter tunnel 6 being located on that side of the ship on which the blades of a single centrally disposed propeller move downwardly in the water, and the V-section tunnel 5 being located on that side where the propeller blades move upwardly. The tunnels are so disposed that the currents set up by the bow of the ship and by the propeller meet within the tunnels.
