Class 146(3) A self-filling ballpoint pen, which is re-filled from the front end without removing the point section 3, and wherein the point section 3, is detachably secured to the body 1 as by screw-threads 2, has an ink channel 7 through the screwthreads 2, and a passage 9 leading to a reverse channel 8, whereby the ink entering the pen reservoir 6 exerts a scavenging effect behind the tube 4 carrying the writing ball 5. The channel 8 is a hole of about 1.5 sq. mm. cross-section for the major part of its length, formed in a thickened part 10 of the point section, the top being closed by a plug &c. 11, and the bottom 8' has a cross-section of about 1 sq. mm. The channel 8 could be formed during the manufacture of the point section by a spraying process, or by grooving the section and providing a separate. cover member.
