Abstract

717,419. reservoir pens. WELCH, S. P. July 25, 1952 [July 20, 1951; Aug. 27, 1951], Nos. 17239/51 and 20113/51. Class 146(3) In a ball-point or other reservoir pen having an ink reservoir in the form of a collapsible sac, the sac 11 is compressed progressively to force ink at all times to the writing point by means of a ball 19 which can be moved progressively along the casing 10 by means of a slider 17, 18 to press a resilient strip 14 against the sac. The strip 14 is free at its forward end, and gripped at its rear end between an end plug 15 and the casing 10. The slider comprises a shoe 17 having a button 18 which projects through a longitudinal slot 16 in the casing: the ball 19 is loose and rests on the strip 14 in front of the shoe.. The cap 20 is also slotted at 21 to accommodate the button 18 when the latter is at the rear end of the casing. As shown, the writing point is a ball carried in a unit 12 which fits into the front end of the sac 11, and is retained by a screw-threaded conical member 13. A felt pad (not shown) is provided within the ink duct in the unit 12 to prevent ink leaking past the ball when the pen is not in use.
