Abstract

691,551. Resilient mountings. INVACAR, Ltd., and GREEVES, O. B. April 24, 1951 [Nov. 8, 1950], No. 27342/50. Class 108 (iii). [Also in Group XXXI] In spring mounting means for a vehicle wheel 36 which is located between two limbs 10, 10 of a fork, the wheel axle 33 being mounted between two lever arms 32 pivotally connected to the mounting, the pivotal connection comprises a rubber bush 23 bonded between two concentric elements 21, 22, the inner element 22 being fixed to a limb of the fork, while the outer element 21 is fixed to the lever arm 32. Spaced lugs 20 are provided on the ends of each fork limb. A self-gripping washer 24 is arranged between each end of the inner element 22 and an inner face of one of the lugs 20. A bolt 26 extends through holes in the lugs 20 and through a hollow plug 25 within the element 22 and clamps the lugs 22 against the washer 24 and the end of the element 22. Each lever arm 32 extends rearwardly from a cylindrical socket member 31 which is welded to the outer element 21. Each lever arm may either be directly attached to the socket 31 or may have a hub portion which embraces the socket. A U-shaped element 35 straddles the wheel and is welded to one of the lever arms 32 and/or the socket member 31. A plate 38 is pivotally mounted at one end of the wheel spindle 33 and carries a brake mechanism (not shown). The torque reaction of the brake forces on the lever arm 32 are counteracted by a lever arm 42 fixed to the plate 38 and pivotally connected by a link 43 to a lug 44 on the fork member 10.
