Abstract

791,101. Steering vehicles. JARRY AUTOMOBILE LIMITEE. March 16, 1956 [Nov. 16, 1955], No. 8284/56. Class 79(5) [Also in Group XXXIII] A steering mechanism for an aircraft nose wheel mounted on a leg comprising a first part 17 and a second relatively rotatable part 19 comprises a block member 6 pivoted to the first part 17, a first link 4 pivoted to the block, a second link 1 pivoted to the second part 19 and universally jointed to the first link at 5, and an actuating means 11 to rotate the block and thereby to rotate the second part 19. As shown, an axle 18 bears twin wheels (not shown) and is secured to the part 19 by a twin collar 20. The parts 17, 19 form a shock absorber. The link 11 is connected to the piston of a hydraulic actuator mounted on the part 17. Fig. 1 (not shown) discloses a similar arrangement for a lever suspension type of nosewheel. The shock absorber preferably allows only a small telescoping of parts 17, 19, whereby the amount of rotation of part 19 for a given movement of block 6 is substantially predetermined.
