Class 79(5) In an independent front wheel mounting for motor vehicles, of the kind in which each stub axle is mounted on a corresponding swivel pin 1, the ends of which are attached respectively to the upper and lower control arms of a suspension linkage of the parallel motion type, at least one end of the swivel pin 1 is located and held in the corresponding socket 7 by a bush or bushes of rubber 5 having a substantially cylindrical shape and capable when in a pre-loaded condition, of withstanding without undue slip a sufficient amount of relative motion between the swivel pin and its socket to cater for steering requirements. The socket 7 shown is for the upper end of the swivel pin 1 and is pivotally attached to its control arm by a pin 8, and as shown two rubber bushes 5 are used each having a flange 6 at one end. The bore of the socket 7 tapers from both ends towards the centre and the bushes 5 are similarly tapered. The bushes are pre-loaded by compressing them between a flange 2 on the swivel pin 1 and a nut 10 which screws on to its upper end. The amount of loading is limited by a shoulder 14 on the pin adjacent the underside of the nut and the nut is locked by a tab 13 on a washer 12, the central aperture of which is shaped to engage a flat 11 on the spindle 1 to prevent its rotation. A similar connection may be made between the bottom end of the swivel pin 1 and a lower control arm.
