Abstract

1,083,249. Feeding tobacco. HAUNIWERKE KORBER & CO. KOMM.-GES. May 31, 1966 [June 2, 1965], No. 24189/66. Heading A2C. A method of building up a tobacco stream, the height of which increases progressively and which is held together by air flowing transversely to the height of the stream is characterized in that the air pressure on the tobacco stream in the direction of the air current increases with progressive increase in the height of the tobacco stream. Tobacco is showered on to an air pervious belt 24 in a U-duct 22 from a tobacco distributer 4 to form a tobacco stream 100. The stream is then carried on a grooved suction wheel 8 to rod-forming apparatus 2. The belt 24 is guided by rollers over a suction chamber 32 which is provided with an auxiliary air flap 35 to reduce suction when stopping and starting the machine. The flap may be actuated automatically, Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown). The duct 22 has a bottom strip (38), Fig. 2 (not shown), over which runs the belt 24, provided with perforations through which suction is applied from the chamber 32. The perforations (80-90), Fig. 3 (not shown), increase in size over the width of the distributer 4 in the direction of the travel of the belt 24 so that the layer of tobacco furthest from the belt 24 tends to be subjected to a constant amount of suction. Beyond the distributer 4 the perforations in the strip (38) are of constant size.
