Abstract

642,941. Bearings. GERARD, P. L. J. July 25, 1946, No. 224/50. Divided out of and addition to 642,891 under which a Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, July 25, 1946. [Class 12 (i)] In a fluid support bearing comprising an axially displaceable inner bearing member (piston) 12 fitting loosely in an outer bearing member (cylinder) 15, chambers a, open to a supply of pressure fluid, and interjacent longitudinal grooves b, open to exhaust, are both provided on the bearing surface of the inner bearing member 12. As shown, the chambers a are fed with pressure fluid via throttling passages 13 from an axial bore 14 in one face of the piston 12, and the grooves b open at one end into a low pressure space adjacent the other face of the piston. Specification 642,891 is referred to.
