Abstract
637,122. Expansion joints. AKT.-GES. FUR TECHNISCHE STUDIEN. July 29, 1947, No. 20461. Convention date, Aug. 7, 1946. [Class 99(i)] Pipes 3<SP>1</SP>, 3<SP>2</SP> subjected to high internal pressure and high temperatures are connected by a comparatively thin and flexible hollow member 14, which may be a currugated tube, surrounded by a space 15 the pressure in which is substantially the same as that of the pipes so that the member is not subjected to any substantial pressure difference. As shown, vessel 18 connected to the pipe 3<SP>2</SP> is partially filled with a liquid which is forced into the space. In a modification, the space 15 is bounded by bellshaped extensions of both pipes, and in a further modification heat-insulating material is interposed between the flexible member and a pipe arranged co-axailly within the pipes 3', 3'.
