Abstract

639,007. Drying cylinders. PAPIERFABRIK BALSTHAL AKT.-GES. July 3, 1947, No. 17575. Convention date, Oct. 25, 1946. [Class 34(i)] A jacketed hot-water drying cylinder comprises a cylinder shaft 1, hollow at one end, carrying a tube 2 rotating with the shaft and provided with a fluid seal 3, an inlet chamber 4 and an outlet chamber 5 being formed. Three supply pipes 6 lead from the. inlet 4 to the cylinder jacket 7 and three discharge pipes 8 lead from this jacket to the outlet 5. The jacket 7 is divided by partitions 7a into one endless zig-zag passage. The temperature at 6a is higher than that at 9 which is in turn higher than the temperature at 10, adjacent to 6a, the temperature gradients in an axial direction thus compensating each other. In a modification, separate passages are provided, each having an inlet at one end and an outlet at the other end arranged so that the inlet of one passage is adjacent to the outlet of its neighbour.
