Abstract

617,444. Rotary spherical valves. GLEN, L..M. Oct. 1, 1946, No. 29220. [Class 135] The obturating member 10, Fig. 1, of a straight-through rotary-spherical valve seats between resilient sealing rings 12 which are held in position by a fixed flange 4 at one end of the casing of the valve and by a screw plug 16 at the other end, the member 10 being rotatable about an axis at right angles to its through passage by means of a handle 32. The plug 16 is screwed into the valve casing by means of ribs 21 and it carries a screwed nut 18 for connection to the fluid line. In a modification, the plug 16 is replaced by a screwed ferrule provided with internal nibs or external slots for manipulation purposes. Each sealing ring is of rubber provided with a metal reinforcing ring 39, Fig. III, and a rib 41 to aid sealing. The operating spindle 23 carried flats at its lower end to engage a corresponding recess in the plug, and it is provided with a collar 27, packing washer 30 and sealing gland 29.
