Abstract

720,559. Valves. PATZIG, E. March 20 1952 [March 20, 1951], No. 7276/52. Class 135 A valve closure member of smooth contour is of truncated conical shape pointing in the upstream direction and of acutely conical shape pointing in the downstream direction, and the acutely conical part is ground into a corresponding valve seat. In one embodiment, the valve is made up of two such closure members 2, 10, loosely coupled together. The stem of the valve is formed with a quick thread 17 engaging a corresponding thread on the surrounding valve casing, and the valve is opened or closed by rotating a handle 6 carried on the end of the stem. The screw-thread actuating device 17 may be replaced by a cap attached to the stem and screwing onto the outside of the valve casing. In a modification, the two closure members point in opposite directions and form an integral structure positively moved to engage the seats alternately. Flow through an intermediately located inlet can thus be diverted to either of the two outlets which are located at the ends of the closure member.
