Abstract

202,955. Yarnall-Waring Co., (Assignees of Yarnall, D. R.). Aug. 22, 1922, [Convention date]. Piston valves. - The valve member of a blow-off valve comprises a ported sleeve secured at one end to one end of a plug movable by the actuating mechanism. In the form shown in the Figure, the sleeve 14 has a single part 15 adapted to cooperate with the inlet 12 and is screwed at 40 to the plug 11, the joint being made fluid tight by rolling the end of the sleeve over a shoulder 41. The sleeve works through packings 17, 18 spaced apart by a ported ring 20 and compressed between a shoulder 21 on the casing and a gland 22 carried by the yoke 27. The actuating screw 33 engages a thread in the plug 11 and is rotatably secured by collars 34, 35 in a boss 32 formed on the yoke 27. The yoke has ribs adapted to engage a slotted flange 31 on the plug to prevent rotation. In a modification the plug is finished square at the bottom and the sleeve has a series of ports leading to an annular chamber communicating with the inlet.
