Abstract

609,122. Drying peat and like materials. RASMUSSEN, C. O. March 6, 1946, No. 6966. [Class 34(ii)] Material is conveyed in a continuous stream along zig-zag paths of travel downwardly through a tower. whilst a gaseous drying medium streams past the material and is extracted from the tower at suitable places, re-heated and re-introduced, the plant is characterized by the feature that the tower is divided into two or more chambers by one or more horizontal partitions, each chamber having its own drying medium circuit. In the apparatus described, the tower is divided by partition 1 into chambers 2 and 3, in which are arranged endless belt conveyers 5 on drums 4. Material is led via elevator 6 to upper belt 5, whence it travels zig-zag throughout both chambers via sluice 11, and the dried material emitted at 12. In each chamber rising hot streams of air are introduced through apertures 13 and when cooled pass through apertures 14 to heatexchangers to be re-heated and re-circulated. In a modification the drying medium of one chamber is led through a heat-exchanger utilizing the drying medium from one or more chambers located below.
