Endless-band conveyers; gaseous currents, materials carried by.-Live cocoons are dried during their passage upon endless bands through a chamber divided by a partition 13, Fig. 3, into upper and lower compartments, the upper compartment being heated by steampipes arranged between the conveyers and the lower compartment by air which has been heated in a steamheated compartment 15, Fig. 2, adjacent the lower compartment into which it is forced by fans 18. The degree of drying is controlled by regulation of the speed of the conveyers. The cocoons are fed on to the conveyer 1 in a preheating chamber 17, which is heated either by the exhaust from the lower compartment, which passes through a conduit 29 or by steampipes 20, and after passing through the chamber fall into a main 22 from which they are discharged pneumatically by a current of air from a fan 38.
