Abstract

Endless band conveyers, articles carried by.- A drying-apparatus of the endless-conveyer class, particularly for coated articles, comprises a conveyer having only point contact with the articles carried and consists of side plates having upstanding tapering or conical portions a n d spaced apart by distance-pieces, or of transverse angle-plates, the top edges of which are cut away. Fig. 1 shows an apparatus comprising a chamber through which articles fed by a partitioned wheel or disc 12 are carried by an endless belt. Air enters and leaves by valved apertures 3, 4, and is heated by steam-pipes 7 between the runs of the conveyer; the articles, for example tin, after drying are delivered to a sloping board 11. Fig. 4 shows a conveyer, suitable for drying coated articles, constructed of carriers 16 formed of side plates which have horns 18 giving point contact with the articles, and are spaced laterally by distance pieces and linked by members 15. The flat bottoms 19 of the plates 16 slide on rails 20 in the chamber. Fig. 8 shows a modified conveyer comprising a belt of fabric with pairs of L-shaped plates 27 riveted thereon, forming carriers, these plates being cut away to leave upstanding point supports for the articles. The belt is formed with openings which may engage the teeth of the driv. ing-wheels. A number of carriers may be disposed side by side on the belts, the feeding- means being correspondingly extended laterally. In a modified form of drier, the air passes longitudinally through the chamber, in counter current to the course of the articles, the inlet and outlef openings for these being adjustable; baffles are provided and may be adjustable; hot air is blown in, and the fumes evolved may be led to a recovery plant.
