Abstract

592,624. Switch bases. SMART & BROWN (ENGINEERS), Ltd., and SPIVEY, W. H. Nov. 28, 1944, No. 23707. [Class 38(v)] [Also in Group XXXVI] An adaptor, shown in plan and elevation in Figs. 1 and 2, for supporting a switch, socket, &c., in a cavity in a wall or ceiling or in a box in such cavity comprises a cylindrical portion 4 having a continuous or separate flanges 5 at one end adapted to be flush against the wall or ceiling and an inwardly turned flange 6 at the other end to support the switch &c. as shown in Fig. 3. Notches 14 in the flange 6 allow the passage of screws 10 that fix the switch to the bottom of the cavity or box 2. Fig. 5 shows a modification in which the adaptor is provided with a continuous flange 8 at the top and two inwardly turned tongues 9 at the bottom for supporting the switch. To facilitate registration of the screw holes in the switch with the notches 14 the switch base is formed with slots which are engaged by inwardly turned tongues 13 on the adaptor.
