Abstract

1,146,984. Junction boxes. GILFLEX CONDUITS Ltd. 17 Feb., 1967 [17 Nov., 1965], No. 48805/65. Heading H2E. A junction box comprises a base 1, a lid 3, and a generally cylindrical wall 2 made up of four equally-spaced sections 4 integral with the base 1, and four removable and interchangeable sections 7a ... 7d having side tongues 8 which slide in converging slots 6 in the edges of sections 4. The removable sections may comprise entry spouts 10a... 10c, either threaded or with smooth tapered bores; removable section 7d is blank. In a modification (Figs. 2, 3, not shown) the removable sections are formed with inwardly directed lugs which engage notches in the inner walls of slots 6 to enhance rigidity, particularly when the box is made of plastics material. A threaded terminal boss may be provided on the base 1 for earth conductors; and the lid 3 may comprise a socket outlet or ceiling rose. Alternatively, the box may be rectangular, having a removable section in each side wall.
