Abstract
557,042. Two-part couplings. KOLSTERBRANDES, Ltd., and MOORE, R. April 24, 1942, No. 5522. [Class 38 (i)] A multiple contact coupling has sockets sunk below the flat upper surface of insulating blocks 8 moulded on a body 12, the sockets being accessible through holes 15 and the cable 3 entering the body in a direction parallel to the upper surface. Plugs 6 on the co-operating member 2 are surrounded by a wall 7 formed on the body 23 of the member, the two bodies 12, 23 being locked together by a wire loop 9 engaging under a lip 10 after the coupling is united. The plugs have flattened shanks that fit into notches 26 in the holes 25 in the body 23 and the shanks are bent to a hooked or corrugated form for securing the plugs in place and for the attachment of the leads of a multiple cable that is gripped in a recess 32 by a cover 24 screwed to the body. The sockets are made from blanks 20, Fig. 5, slit into tongues 21a that are curled in opposite directions to form a resilient socket, the shank 21 being bent into a hooked form and fitted into a recess at the side of the socket cavity. The plug body may be mounted by screws either entering the body or a flange surrounding the wall 7. Several plug members may be mounted in a panel to form a distribution board or on the casing of an apparatus. The contacts are retained in position in the body by engagement of the shanks either with the cover or with a retaining strip.
