Abstract
590,723. Multiple fastenings. FRAISSANGE, R. J. R. July 23, 1945, No. 18787. Convention date, May 4, 1944. [Class 44] A safety bar g for a single or double door co-operates with and moves parallel to the safety bolt e, and is supported lengthwise by one or more rollers k carried by fittings l secured to the door. The bar has secured to it an iron fitting h, the end h<1> of which is bent to form a U-piece which is coupled to the bolt e, a pin or the like, which is easily removable, serving to connect the fitting to the bolt. The front end m of the bar engages beneath a staple formed in a strap n secured to the door frame, while the rear end p remains engaged beneath a staple g in another strap secured to the other side of the door frame, i.e. that which carries the hinges c. Near the rear end p of the bar g there is a swivel joint r, which, when the door is not locked, is aligned with the door hinges c. so that in this position alone the door can be opened. For use with a single leaf door, the bar is slightly longer than the width of the leaf, its forward end m being in line with the end of the bolt e, and engaging in the closed position under the staple n situated in an extension of the staple f for the bolt and preferably integral therewith. When used on a double door the bar g extends right across the leaf a<1> carrying the staple f for the bolt e, and engages at its forward end m under the staple n of a strap secured to the door frame. When removal of the bar is desired, the pin is removed from the iron fitting h, and the bar g is raised to disengage the hook h<1> from the bolt e and to free the bar from the flange l<1>, Fig. 2, of the roller support ; the rear end p of the bar can then be freed from the staple q. In a modification the bar g is located above the bolt e, and the iron fitting h has a terminal pin which engages in a blind hole in the bar. The bar g may co-operate with a key-operated bolt, the lock casing having a slot for the passage of the coupling means h.
