Door chains and The like.-A device for preventing the opening of a window from the outside beyond a predetermined limit comprises a pair of chains e secured to the upper and lower sashes a, b and passing through a slotted plate fixed to the frame d and engaging over a stud on the slotted plate. The chains e are secured to the sashes a, b by plates g. At their other end the chains are each provided with a slotted plate f so that when the chains are passed through the slot in the plate c, the plates f can be engaged over the stud c<2>. The window sashes can then only be opened from the outside to the limit of the chains. The stud c<2> may be fixed rigidiy to the plate c or may swivel therein.
