Abstract
586,207. Moulds for concrete sleepers and like beams. DOWSETT ENGINEERING CONSTRUCTION, Ltd., and BARBER, R. S. V. Aug. 24, 1944, No. 16167. [Class 87 (ii)] A mould for concrete sleepers embodies means whereby various attachments (for producing a chamfer on the edges of the sleeper and holes for holding-down bolts) may be readily attached to the mould and firmly held when attached to avoid displacement when the mould is vibrated. The mould consists of an open-ended trough shaped portion 12 having flanges 13 over which engage plates 14 shaped to produce chamfers on the edges of the concrete sleeper. Transverse bars 16 having downwardly projecting dowel pins 17 which pass through holes in the plates 14 and flanges 13 locate the plates 14 in position and are themselves held in place by spring- loaded catches 18 operated by handles 19. Pins 21 which produce holes for holding-down bolts in the sleeper can pass freely through the plates 16 and spigot in the bottom of the mould and are held down by springs 23 attached at one end to a groove in the bent over portions 22 of the pins and at the other hooked to a flange 13. Collars 25 for forming enlarged countersunk ends in the holes for the holding down bolts may be attached to the bars 16. Specifications 572,387 and 572,390 are referred to.
