Abstract

An abrading tool comprises an abrading portion comprising particles of abrasive, for example, diamond, sapphire, corundum, &c. mixed with copper and chromium particles and sintered, the sintered mass having its face in engagement with a backing support formed of the sintered metal used for the abrasive part. The backing may comprise from 5 per cent to 50 per cent copper and 95 per cent to 50 per cent chromium, preferably 16.5 per cent copper and 83.5 per cent chromium of 200-325 mesh thoroughly mixed and subjected to a pressure of approximately 20 tons per sq. in. The mixture of metal particles and abrasive is then placed on the surface of the mixture, after dusting with copper powder and compressed under a pressure of approximately 60 tons per sq. in.
