Abstract

562,294. Abrasive tools. FERRARI, J. Nov. 26, 1943, No. 9041. [Classes 60 and 124] [Also in Group XXII] Abrasive tools such as drills, saws, wheels, cutting discs, hones and laps have the diamonds or other abrasive grains, such as corundum, wholly or in part supported by sprayed metal containing beryllium as a strengthening or hardening agent. The diamonds may be rolled or pressed into a metal or other material foundation so as to leave a uniform amount protruding over the entire surface which is then sprayed until the diamonds are entirely covered. The resulting surface is then ground sufficiently to expose the diamonds. Suitable copper base alloys contain from 1 to 10 per cent of beryllium. An alloy of percentage composition beryllium 2, cobalt 0.25 and copper 97.75, mechanically'powdered to from 200 to 250 mesh, may be employed.
