Abstract

Porous blocks, strips, &c. for cleaning surfaces or sharpening tools &c., comprise abrasive grains, e.g. of quartz, quartzite, sand, flint, calcined flint, emery, corundum, or carborundum and glass, bound with a hydraulic cement, e.g. Portland cement, aluminous or gypsum cement, or steam-hardened lime-siliceous or lime-argillaceous mixtures, the cement having been made porous as by beating or blowing air &c. into the mix which may be foam-stabilized, e.g. using a sulphonated fatty alcohol, or mixing in a pre-formed foam, or peroxide of hydrogen or calcium &c. or by use of aluminium zinc, magnesium or iron powder.
