Abstract

545,099. Hydraulic couplings; fluid-pressure servomotors. GLACIER METAL CO., Ltd., ROVER CO., Ltd., and BOYLE, W. R. April 16, 1941, No. 4950. [Classes 69 (ii) and 135] In a hydraulic power transmission system for driving vehicles, the pump c is driven by the engine d and the motor b is connected to the driving wheels a. The pump c delivers to the motor b through a pape f in which is connected an energy storage reservoir e provided with a spring-loaded piston. The driving torque developed by the motor is controlled by a pedal g through linkage 26, 27 and the output of the pump is controlled by a speed governor r acting through bell crank 12 to control a fluid-pressure servomotor q acting on the pump control through linkage s, t. A pressure sensitive piston i loaded by a spring j is subjected to the pressure in the reservoir e and as the pressure falls, the piston, through a spring-loaded abutment m, acts on lever l to open the throttle g<SP>1</SP> of the engine d. If the pressure still falls, the piston rod k will over-ride the governor r and actuate bell crank o to reduce the output of the pump and allow the engine speed to increase. The pedal 28 controls the reverse running of the motor b. The pump and motor may be of the swash-plate types.
