Abstract

416,019. Hydraulic transmission of power. SINCLAIR, H., 6, The Crest, Surbiton Hill, Surrey. March 4, 1933, No. 6678. [Class 69 (ii).] In hydraulic power transmission systems for ships' steering gears, hydroplane control in submarines, gun-training mechanism, &c. comprising a continuously running driving motor, regulating means for varying the speed of the motor, a pump, a reversible hydraulic motor, and a control valve, the driving motor is coupled to the pump by a hydraulic coupling or gear of the kinetic type, and the speedregulating means respond to the position of the control valve. The form shown in Fig. 1 comprises a driving motor 11, a hydraulic coupling 10 of the kinetic type, a pump 8, and a reversible hydraulic motor 1 with control valve 3. The control valve is operated from a wheel 12 through hunting gear, and is connected to a shunt regulator 21, so that as the valve leaves its neutral position, the speed of the motor is progressively increased. In a modification, the arm 22<a>, Fig. 2, of the shunt regulator is acted on by a spring 25 urging it towards the maximum speed position, and by the piston of a hydraulic cylinder 26 connected to the pump delivery main 4. In another form, the shunt regulator is connected to a floating lever 28, Fig. 3, connected to the control valve and to a piston 30 acted on by springs 31, 311 and by the pressures acting on the pistons of the hydraulic motor 1.
