Abstract
960,124. Arrangement of transmission gearing. KOPAT - GESELLSCHAFT FUR KONSTRUCTION, ENTWICKLUNG, and PATENTVERWERTUNG m.b.H. Sept. 1, 1961 [Sept. 9, 1960], No. 31589/61. Heading B7H. [Also in Division F2] In an hydraulic transmission of power for a motor vehicle a make-up pump 9 driven by shaft 1 from an engine (not shown), draws fluid through pipe 13 from sump 11 and delivers the fluid through pipe 14 to servo-control apparatus 16 and thence through pipe 15 to a hydrostatic torque converter 2 which drives wheel axles 8, 8<SP>1</SP>. Servo 16, controlled by a manually-operated lever 17, is connected by linkage to control member 26 of converter 2, the swash plates (not shown) of which are connected to member 26, and thus operation of servo 16 adjusts the transmission ratio of the converter according to the position of lever 17. Output shaft 3 of the converter has a braking surface 28 and a brake band 29 may be brought into contact with it by actuation of element 30 to which is also connected, through linkage 34, 35, a valve 36 connected with pipe 15. The arrangement is such that the flow of fluid to the converter is automatically interrupted by a valve responsive to the pressure in the make-up circuit when the brake is actuated. A wedge-shaped reinforcement 37 on link 34 acting with a slot 38 in an extension 39 of linkage 18 ensures that when the brake is operated, the transmission ratio of the torque converter is set to idling. Also a clutch 43, placed in a mechanical by-pass 44, 45 of the torque converter, is operated through a further link 42 by the brake element 30. Specification 914,699 is referred to.
