Abstract

574,721. Cycles &c. TAYLOR, J. E. Jan. 18, 1944, No. 922. [Class 136 (ii)] The force exerted on the pedals of a pedal-driven wheeled vehicle is transmitted through hydraulic pistons to a rotary hydraulic motor coupled by mechanical driving gear to the rear road wheel. Plungers 7, 8, 9 and their associated hydraulic cylinders feed fluid (water, oil or mercury) from a tank 23 into a first stage pressure cylinder 13. A totally enclosed Pelton wheel 15 is fed from the cylinder 13 through an automatic control valve and drives a shaft 16 carrying a fly-wheel 17, a clutch 18 and a worm 19. A worm-wheel 39 driven by the worm 19 operates plungers 22, 24 which feed a second stage pressure cylinder 25 through non- return valves. The cylinder 25 feeds a second Pelton wheel 27 through an automatic control valve 36 which drives the rear road wheel 2 through a gear-box 30.
