Abstract

526,963. Knitting. WILDT & CO., Ltd., and HOLMES, H. H. March 27, 1939, No. 9489. [Class 74 (ii)] A superposed cylinder machine is provided with one or more lap or wrap thread guides 8 cabable of deflection laterally to the extent of two or more needles so that the thread supplied by the guide or guides can be knitted by each or any of these needles. The thread-guiding end of the guide may be integral with the remainder of the guide and of a flexible nature, or as shown, the thread-guiding end 7 may be pivoted to the body of the guide 8 and pressed normally against the body by spring 16. A deflecting member 10 common to all of the guides may be provided, and may be fixed radially with respect to the mchine ; alternatively; the deflector 10 may be arranged for movement to and from an operative position under control of timing or pattern mechanism. The thread guides may be shogged with respect to the needles by mechanism as described in Specification 455,801, and patterning mechanism as described in Specification 514,261 may be provided for selectively actuating the thread guides 8. In the place of the pivoted thread guides, bits arranged for sliding movement in a flat or conical dial, as described in Specification 252,883, [Class 74 (ii)], may be provided.
