Abstract

481,475. Knitting-machines. BOOTON, W. E. June 10, 1937, No. 16143. [Class 74 (ii)] A circular machine having means for feeding an additional thread to a number of needles in a course is provided with means for imparting an additional movement solely to those sinkers that co-operate with the needles taking the additional thread. The sinker cam 34 may be actuated at or about the knocking- over point to impart increased advance to the sinkers. In one form, Fig. 1, in which the splicing thread finger 10 is controlled by pattern mechanism to determine which needles are supplied with the splicing thread, the cam follower 120, which through levers 119, 115, 111 controls the sinker cam 34, is arranged to engage the cam 18 at a position behind the follower 20 corresponding to the thread finger 10. In a second form, Fig. 5, in which the needles are selected by a picker or pickers as described in Specification 469,507, a feeler 42 is actuated by butts 40 on the needles or needle jacks to operate the sinker cam 34. In this arrangement, the feeler 42 is actuated by the needles or jacks at the knocking-over point. To allow for the width of the nose of the feeler, the feeler is mounted by a pin-and-slot connection so as to have movement upon an arm 41a.
