Abstract
525,697. Gyroscopic apparatus. SHEVLIN, J. T. (Siemens Apparate und Maschinen Ges.). Feb. 25, 1939. No. 6326. [Class 97 (iii)] A gyroscope such as a course gyroscope in which the precession axis is mounted in a gimbal frame 5, in an aircraft, which frame is rotatable about an axis 6 perpendicular to the precession axis and at least one aperture 7 is provided in the gyroscope casing 3 and so formed, by means of a baffle 8, as to cause a stream of air to flow tangentially from the casing and thereby apply a continuously acting restoring force to the gimbal frame excentrically to the precession axis in the normal position of the gyroscope. If desired, a pair of apertures 7 are provided at opposed ends of a diameter of the casing 3. Inflow apertures 7a are provided.
