668,310. Gyroscopic apparatus. FERRANTI, Ltd., and WILLIAMS, J. R. April 11, 1950 [April 21, 1949], No. 10605/49. Class 97 (iii). In a gyro-apparatus such as an artificial, horizon for an aircraft in which the gyro is supported by inner and outer gimbals, the pointer consists of two components 22, 27 disposed one on one side and the other on the other side of the plane containing the axes of the gyro and the axis 6-7 of the outer gimbal shown in the form of a cylindrical casing 1, and sufficiently separated to clear the bearings 5 of the outer gimbal when aligned therewith and connected to each other by a link member 26 which passes behind the dial member 10 clear of the bearing 5 between the bearing 5 and the inner gimbal contained within the casing 1, the link 26 moving freely between limits in a slotted aperture 25 in the outer gimbal in dependence on the pointer arm 20. The arm 20 pivoted on casing 1 at 21 is shown as controlled by pin 23 secured to the journal of the inner gimbal and working in slot 23<SP>1</SP> of arm 20. The aperture 25 is formed in an extension from the part of the outer gimbal or casing 1 which contains the inner gimbal.
