Abstract

524,693. Securing bearing rings on shafts. MALAN, A. Feb. 3, 1939, No. 3617. Convention date, Feb. 4, 1938. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIV] A ball or roller bearing 2 is secured on a shaft or in a housing by conical surfaces at least one of which is formed on a removable resilient sleeve, the inclination of the conical surfaces being greater than the angle of friction. As shown the surfaces are both formed on resilient sleeves 3, 4, which are urged towards one another by a screwed ring 6 to clamp the bearing 2 on the shaft. The sleeves have a groove 8 to facilitate removal. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also describes a construction in which the conical surfaces are formed on non-resilient sleeves splined to the shaft. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
