Abstract

360,476. Ball bearings. SCHULZE, W., 4, Drosselstrasse, Jena, Germany. Aug. 7, 1930, No. 23667. [Class 12 (i).] A spindle for grinding and like machines is supported by ball bearings arranged in pairs, each pair comprising race rings 5, 6, Fig. 1, having, the. abutment shoulders forming ball-race tracks 7 facing in opposite directions, one race ring at least of each pair being urged by a spring washer 12 to take up wear, and the inner ball tracks being formed directly in the spindle. The race rings of two inner pairs of bearings shown in Fig. 1, are slidable in the casing 2 and the race rings 3, 8 are carried in a sleeve 14 pressed by a spring 19, the spindle being retained in the casing by nuts 21, 22. A spring washer 13 is inserted between the nut 21 and the casing. In a modification the pairs of bearings are carried in separate sleeves 24, 25, 26, Fig. 2, connected by threaded collars 28, 29 and held in an outer casing by nuts 42, 43. One race ring of each pair of bearings is pressed by a spring washer 32.
