Abstract
520,203. Hay-making. BAMFORD, C. J.,and BAMFORD, H. V. oct. 15, 1938, No. 29917. ' [Class 6 (iii)] In swath-turners or hay collectors of the kind having rakes arranged cone-wise, a combined driving carrier unit 13 is provided for each rotating head 43, such unit comprising a rakeactuating shaft 19, Fig. 4, and being mounted upon a driving shaft 14, which is arranged parallel to and above the axle 10 and receives motion from the road wheels 11. The unit is movable around the shaft 14 to raise or lower the head. Spur wheels 34,33 or chain gearing may connect the wheels 11 with the shaft 14,. and the shaft 14 turns the shafts 19 by means of bevel wheels 35 and bevel pinions 36, clutches 37 being associated with the pinions 36 to provide for the shafts 19 being rotated in either direction. Each unit may be'enclosed in an oil bath housing 18. Levers 22 are provided for turning the units about the shaft 14 to raise the tines and the units can be adjusted along the shaft by levers 26 operated by a handle wheel 31 and screw shaft 29. Each tine of a conically arranged, set has a pinion 46 engaging an intermediate gear which engages a stationary gear wheel 45 on the shaft 19, the arrangement being such that the points of the tines are always directed to the ground.
