Abstract
700,522. Lawn-mowers. SUFFOLK IRON FOUNDRY (1920), Ltd., and FISHER, S. G. April 30, 1952 [May 10, 1951], No. 10986/51. Class 6 (2) In side-wheel lawn-mowers, the cutters are driven through two-speed toothed gearing. The internally-toothed rim 23 and the externallytoothed hub 24 of the side wheels are alternately engaged by members of a train of gear wheels mounted on plates 31 pivoted about the axis 21 of the cutter reel and angularly moved by a handle 37 pivoted on the rod 13 fixed to the frame and engaging by its forked end the parallel rod 32 attached to the plates. In one position, the toothed wheel 35 and the rim 23 are in engagement and in the other the wheel 34 engages the hub teeth 24. A spring-pressed pin 39 "clicks" the handle 37 in " set " position ; a neutral position where the gears are out of engagement may be provided. The pinion 34 may be replaced by a double pinion having two sets of teeth differing in number.
