Abstract
651,995. Swath-turners. BAMFORD, C. J., and BAMFORD, H. V. April 24, 1948, No. 11320. [Class 6(iii)] Relates to swath-turners of the type having two or more raking heads 45, 55 spaced apart on a transverse shaft 28 carried by a tractor. According to the invention, a longitudinal drive shaft 34 is aligned with one of the raking heads 45 and drives it through bevel gearing, the drive to the other, laterally-offset, head or heads being transmitted by the shaft 28. The heads are carried by a frame 11 mounted on links 17, 20 attached to the tractor, the frame being provided with a single adjustable caster-wheel 23. The drive shaft 34 from the power take-off drives a bevel gear 42 in a casing 29, through which the shaft 28 passes. The bevel gear 42 engages the underside of a double-sided bevel gear 39 the upper side of which drives the shaft 44 of the raking head 45 through a gear 43 which also engages a gear 46 on the shaft 28. The shaft 28 drives the head 55 through gearing 63, 64, 65. Each of the gears 64, 65 is free on the shaft 28 and the whole unit including the gearbox 50 and the head 55 is transversely adjustable so that a fixed dog-clutch 67 may engage either of the gears 64, 65. Transverse adjustment of the head 55 therefore reverses its direction of rotation. Specification 651,991 is referred to.
