[Class 18] A jig. for assembling wooden, fibre board &c. boxes comprises a base carrying pairs of stops 14, 15 between which the edges of side walls 41 of a box may be engaged with the rear edges abutting stops 18, Fig. 1, and 42, Fig. 3, so that the two box walls are parallel to the plane containing the outer faces of members 11, 16, Fig. 1. In this position a wall is nailed on their upper edges. The three joined walls, are then removed and up - ended and replaced on the base, the pins 15 being resilient so that they withdraw within the base. A fourth side is then nailed on to constitute four sides of the container. Pins 14, 15 are carried on an adjustable clamp 13, Fig. 7, adjustable along members 12 of channel section. The upper parts of the two walls are supported by members 23, Fig. 1, carried adjustably in members 22, adjustable along a bar 21 of a structure 17. Member 22 is clamped to bar 21 by a butterfly nut 26, Fig. 2, and support 23 is clamped to member 22 by a butterfly nut 32. The contacting edge of support 23 is constituted by an edge 33, Fig. 3, supported by springs 35 to facilitate removal of the work from the jig. An alternative in which the pins 14, 15 are replaced by continuous members is described. A treadle for disengaging the four-sided shell may be provided.
