Abstract
515,722. Motor-vehicle frames., AVERNS, R. DEAN-, and GUY, S. S. June 27, 1938, No, 18942. [Class 79 (iv] The rigidity of the middle portion of a motorvehicle frame of the kind comprising a pair of longitudinal side members connected by front and rear and middle cross members is increased by deepening the cross section of the middle portions of the side members and by the provision of buttresses d at each side of the middle cross members. The side members may comprise channel girders a considerably deeper at the middle portion a<1> than at the ends. The middle cross member b may be of deep inverted channel form, the ends b being reduced in height to facilitate attachment to the side members and one side b<2> thereof being extended and formed with a flange b<4> providing an abutment and seating for the lower buttresses d on one side. The buttresses d are of substantially triangular shape in plan and side elevation. An additional cross member e may be provided on one or both sides of the middle cross members in the vicinity of the spring attachment brackets f. The frame may be used for the engine mounting described in Specification 515,723.
