Abstract

436,639. Vehicle bodies. ABBEY, A., 111, Hatton Garden, London.-(Tatra Works, Ltd. Motor Car & Railway Carriage & Wagon Builders ; 200, Kartouzska, Smichov, Prague) April 18, 1935, No. 12063. [Class 108 (i)] In streamline vehicle bodies the wheel housings for the front and rear wheels are incorporated in, and form part of, the supporting framework. The wheel housings 4, 5 are as shown, flat half cylinders and are joined by lateral frame members 6 while the front housings 4 are connected by a front transverse frame member 7 and the rear housings 5 by frame members 8, 9. The front housings are connected by a partition 10 having an extension 11 while the rear housings are also cross connected by partitions 12, 13. These partitions together with a cross member 14 serve to strengthen the frame laterally and also serve to subdivide the body into spaces for the engine, passengers and luggage. The partition 10 and extension 11 are provided with frame members 15 which are connected to the upper lateral from members 16 which continue down as at 17 to the rear wheel housings 5. The frame members 6, 7, 8 may be formed as box girders by means of metal sheets bent as shown in Fig. 3.
