Abstract
528,496. Motor vehicle frames. MORRIS COMMERCIAL CARS, Ltd., and ROSE, P. G. May 9, 1939, No. 13790. [Classes 79 (iii) and 79 (iv)] A motor vehicle has a main frame 1 supporting the body or the rear portion thereof, and a secondary frame 2 supporting the engine, bonnet, radiator and driver's cab said secondary frame being supported by two longitudinal pivots 16 and a ball joint 11 on the main frame, the pivots 16 being near the middle of the length of the secondary frame so that the front part of the latter is suspended as a cantilever. The pivots 16 are located approximately in the transverse plane containing the C.G. of the suspended mass. The forward end of the secondary frame comprises two parallel side' members lying above the side members of the main frame, the rear ends converging towards the ball joint 11. The longitudinal pivot pins 16 are held in brackets 13 on the main frame 1 and are connected to brackets 12 on the secondary frame 2 by rubber bushes 17 vulcanized to sleeves 18, 19. The front end of the secondary frame may be connected to the main frame by a lateral tie-rod or link 23 which does not take any vertical load. If the driver's cab 8 is in one with the body 4, the front end or cab portion is mounted on the secondary frame and the other body supports are on the main frame.
