Abstract
470,650. Aeroplanes. AIRSPEED (1934), Ltd., and TILTMAN, A. H. Feb. 25, 1936, No. 5618. [Class 4] An aeroplane comprises a wing structure A, Fig. 1, and a tail structure D and booms C interconnecting the two structures so as to leave a large opening E therebetween, the pilot's or crew's cockpit being provided in the tail structure D. The portion A serves to carry retractable undercarriage gear, armament, tanks and engine accessories. The portion D, Fig. 5, includes a cock-pit formed as an enlarged fin to which the rudder is hinged. The pilot's seat may be adjustable in height and in order to improve the view on landing trailing edge flaps fitted to the wing may be made of transparent material. The invention may be applied to biplanes and the rear structure may include a gunner's cockpit.
