Abstract

491,711. Variable speed gearing. DEUTSCHE WERKE KIEL AKT. - GES. April 6, 1938, No. 10529. Convention date, April 8, 1937. [Class 80 (ii)] Variable-speed epicyclic gearing comprises a driving shaft 1 carrying planet pinions 13 driving an annulus 9 on an intermediate shaft 8, the sun 16 being adapted to be held by a brake 17 and a free-wheel device 4 being provided between the two shafts. The intermediate shaft 8 carries in addition an annulus 10 and a sun 11 respectively of two further trains of which the planet carriers are mounted on the final driven shaft 5 and the other sun 20 and annulus 23 are adapted to be braked by brakes 22, 25. Thus a direct drive of the intermediate shaft is obtained through the free-wheel device 4 or an increased speed by braking the sun 16 whilst the drive from the shaft 8 to the driven shaft is obtained by braking either the sun wheel 20 or annulus 23 as required.
