486,210. Crank casings. BARRING- TON, T. B., RUBBRA, A. A., and SHELLEY, T. Dec. 24, 1936, No. 35378. [Class 7 (ii)] Crank-casings for radial-cylinder engines are made in two parts, spigoted' and socketed together adjacent to the bearing and retained by bolts E<1> traversing peripheral lugs E. Pairs of bolts G, G<1> run from side to side of the casing, parallel to the cylinder axes, adjacent pairs being staggered relatively to each other sufficiently to avoid interference. Bolts G which draw the sides of the central socket against the spigot are tightened before the other bolts G<1>. Clearances D, D<1>, E<2> are made in the contacting faces of the casing halves to ensure accurate bedding in the vicinity of the bolts and in the socket.
