Abstract

206,327. Guiterman & Co., Ltd., S., Tate, G. E., and Monkhouse, F. O. Oct. 5, 1922. Shaft couplings are adapted to adjust two shafts positively through small angles by means of two cylinders a, d having rings of equallyspaced holes g, i respectively, the two rings differing as to the number of holes. An angular displacement of say 5‹ brings a different pair of holes into coincidence, and a set screw l is passed through the outer hole and screwed into the inner. The screws and coinciding pairs may be duplicated. The member a is secured directly to one shaft, and the member d may be connected to the other shaft through means permitting bending at the coupling. Thus a boss q secured to the second shaft by a pin s may have ribs p interpenetrating internal ribs m upon the cylinder d. Cushioning means h may be arranged between the two sets of ribs. This adjustable cushioned universal arangement is specially adapted for timing the ignition of internal-combustion engines.
